THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN

Chapter 18

Heavenly Father, as I read Thy Holy Scriptures recorded in this chapter of the Gospel of John, please fully reveal unto me Thy Love for me in that Thou didst freely give Thy Only Begotten Son to die for me. Please fully reveal unto me Jesus’ Love for me in that He willingly lay down His Life for me so that I might live forever.

“When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.” (Verse 1)

Lord Jesus Christ, I desire to be Thy disciple. I desire to go with Thee whithersoever Thou doest go. Please make me into Thy disciple. Please take me with Thee always. Please grant these desires of mine.

“And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.” (Verse 2)

Lord Jesus, please save me from ever betraying Thee. Please give me spiritual discernment to discern amongst the people around me, the ones who are hypocrites and who falsely profess to be a Christian believer. In accordance to Thy Will, lead me to shun all such imitators.

“Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Phari-sees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.” (Verse 3)

Lord Jesus Christ, I stand on Thy Side against all souls who oppose Thee.

“Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?” (Verse 4)

Lord Jesus, I worship Thee, as the One True God Who is all knowing; omniscient. Please perfect my heart’s motives toward Thee so that I always seek Thee for the proper motives.

“They answered him, Jesus of Naza-reth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.” (Verse 5)

Almighty Son of God, I confess that Thou art Jesus of Nazareth. I stand with Thee, Lord Jesus. I stand against all souls who betray Thee.

“As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.” (Verse 6)

Jesus of Nazareth, I confess that Thou art Almighty God Who hath unlimited Power over all human souls and over all Thy creation. I confess that I belong unto Thee, and that I have no desire to oppose Thee in any way at all. Lord Jesus, I stand firmly on Thy Side.

“Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Naza-reth.” (Verse 7)

Lord Jesus, help me to always seek Thee for good and upright purposes and never to seek Thee for evil, sinful purposes.

“Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:” (Verse 8)

Lord Jesus Christ, I praise Thy Name that Thou doest care for my safety, protection, and well-being. I confess that my life in is Thy Hand. I confess that Thou art my Good Shepherd, my Protector, my Shield, my Life, my All. I praise Thee for being such to me.

“That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.” (Verse 9)

Almighty God the Father in Heaven, I confess that Thy Son, Jesus Christ, has never lost any human soul that Thou hast given Him. I confess to Thee, Heavenly Father, my faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world. I praise Thy Great and Glorious Name that my life is kept by Almighty God in Heaven.

“Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.” (Verse 10)

Lord Jesus, save me from acting outside of Thy Will. Save me from wrongfully acting against other people, especially in a harmful way.

“Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?” (Verse 11)

Lord Jesus, I thank Thee for drinking the cup which God the Father gave unto Thee, in order to provide salvation and eternal life for me.

“Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,” (Verse 12)

Lord Jesus, I thank Thee for being willing to be bound by sinful men for my sake.

“And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caia-phas, which was the high priest that same year.” (Verse 13)

“Now Caia-phas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.” (Verse 14)

Lord Jesus Christ, I thank Thee for dying for me, for my sins, and for all people. I pray that all people now on earth would repent unto God and trust in Thee, Lord Jesus, to save them.

“And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.” (Verse 15)

Lord Jesus, I desire to be Thy disciple. And as Thy disciple, I desire to always follow Thee perfectly. By Almighty God’s Unlimited Power, please enable me to do so.

“But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.” (Verse 16)

Lord Jesus, as Thy disciple, please help me to never be ashamed before men of following Thee. Help me to never timidly hold back a distance from Thee. Cause me to always fervently desire to follow as close as possible to Thee. Help me to never be fearful of following Thee, even if that causes me to be killed for Thy Name’s Sake.

“Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.” (Verse 17)

Almighty God in Heaven, please show me clearly just how much like Peter I am. Show me just how prone I would be to do just like Peter in such a situation as this, and out of a fearful heart deny that I am one of Thy disciples. Save me from trusting in my flesh. Cause me to always fully trust in Almighty God to give me the needed courage to stand for Thee before Thy enemies and to boldly and joyfully proclaim to them and to every soul on this earth that I belong unto Thee and that Thou art most precious unto me.

“And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.” (Verse 18)

Almighty Lord God, save me from standing in the way of sinners. (Psalms 1:1)

“The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.” (Verse 19)

“Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.” (Verse 20)

Lord Jesus, people who refuse to repent to God and to trust in Thee to save them are without excuse. Thou hast spoken openly to the world. All that Thou hast spoken unto the human race is recorded ever so perfect in Thy Holy Bible. Thou hast diligently taught us all we need to know, keeping nothing secret from us. Please help me to receive, believe, and all Thy Words. I pray that all other souls now on earth will do this also.

“Why asketh thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.” (Verse 21)

Lord Jesus Christ, please cause me to hear all that Thou doest say unto me. Please impart unto me thorough knowledge of what Thou doest say.

“And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?” (Verse 22)

Lord Jesus, Thou hast done all things well. Thou hast spoken all things well. I do not oppose anything Thou doest say or do. I stand with Thee against all creatures that oppose Thee.

“Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?” (Verse 23)

Lord Jesus, I confess that Thou hast never spoken evil. I confess that Thou hast always spoken well. I confess that all people who oppose Thee are without excuse for doing so. I confess that I do not oppose The Lord Jesus Christ in any way at all. I am Thy friend, Lord Jesus. I praise Thee for being my Friend.

“Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caia-phas the high priest.” (Verse 24)

Lord Jesus, I thank Thee for being willing to be bound by men for my sake. I love Thee, Lord Jesus.

“And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.” (Verse 25)

Heavenly Father, send Thy Holy Spirit to teach me the tragic mistake Peter made by continuing to stand in the presence of the devil’s crowd to warm himself. Teach me clearly how that he lost all his proper courage by being in their presence. Please have mercy on me to save me from ever making such a mistake.

“One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?” (Verse 26)

Lord God, please help me to always be aware that people are watching me. May all my words and deeds always glorify Thee.

“Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.” (Verse 27)

Lord Jesus, show me how that I am just as weak and fearful as Peter was. Cause me to always rely upon Thee fully for strength, courage, and protection. Save me from ever denying Thee. Fill me with godly courage to always boldly profess Thee as my all before all men.

“Then led they Jesus from Caia-phas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.” (Verse 28)

Lord Jesus, thank Thee for being willing to be judged in my place. I love Thee for that, my Sweet Lord Jesus. Please help me to fully prepare to meet Thee, my Creator God, in Judgment by now truly repenting unto Thee and trusting in Thee to save me.

“Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?” (Verse 29)

Almighty Lord Jehovah God in the Highest Heaven, I confess that I have no accusation at all to bring against the Lord Jesus Christ. I know that Christ is Perfect and hath done all things well. I stand on Jesus’ side, and I love Him with all my heart.

“They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.” (Verse 30)

Lord Jesus, these people lied about Thee. Please save me from ever lying about Thee.

“Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:” (Verse 31)

Heavenly Father, these men are murderers at heart. They are the worst of murderers in that they want to murder God the Son. Please save me from ever desiring to do such a sinful deed.

“That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.” (Verse 32)

Lord Jesus Christ, Thou art Almighty God. All Thy sayings came to pass. All Thy sayings were fulfilled. I trust in Thee. Please teach me the richest and fullest meanings of all Thy sayings and words in the Holy Bible.

“Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the king of the Jews?” (Verse 33)

Lord Jesus, I confess that Thou art King of kings and Lord of Lords. I confess that Thou art Almighty God the Creator of all things. I confess that I belong unto Thee. Please ever keep me safe in Thy Loving Care.

“Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?” (Verse 34)

Lord Jesus, I confess that Almighty God hath taught me that Thou art King of the Jews, the King of kings and Lord of lords. I claim Thee as my King and Lord.

“Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priest have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?” (Verse 35)

Heavenly Father, I confess that Thy Son, the Lord Jesus Christ hath always done all things well and that He will do so forever. I confess that I find favour with all that Jesus doeth.

“Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.” (Verse 36)

Lord Jesus Christ, I earnestly desire to be a part of Thy Kingdom, the Kingdom of God. Please place me into Thy Eternal Kingdom, and teach me fully the meaning of Thy Kingdom.

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” (Verse 37)

Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou art The One True God Who is an Eternal King. I worship Thee as such. I confess that Thou didst come into this world to bear witness unto the truth. I desire to be a person who is of the truth. Please re-create me into a person who is of the truth. I desire to always hear Thy Precious Voice, Lord Jesus. Please grant this desire of mine. Please give me spiritual discernment to always discern Thy Voice and create within me a heart fully willing to follow Thy Voice and Leading. Help me to now fully yield myself unto Thee for this purpose.

“Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.” (Verse 38)

Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou art Truth. Please uphold me to always stand for Thee and for God’s Truth, no matter if that stand costs me my life. Was Pilate mystified because Thou wast willing to lay down Thy Life for Truth? Please impart unto me a full understanding of the importance of me always firmly standing for God’s Truth. Lord Jesus, Pilate confessed that he found no fault at all in Thee. I confess the same. I find no fault in Thee, Lord Jesus.

“But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?” (Verse 39)

Lord Jesus, I desire Thee. Therefore I choose Thee as my God, my King, my Saviour, my All.

“Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Ba-rabbas. Now Ba-rabbas was a robber.” (Verse 40)

Heavenly Father, please convince me that to choose anything but Jesus Christ is to choose a robber. Any person or thing I choose instead of Christ will rob me of all good things in this life and will also rob me of eternal life in Heaven. I confess that I choose Christ. I confess that I reject all choices in life that stand in opposition to Jesus. Please help me to always guard this confession and this choice.

Our Father which art in Heaven, I pray all these things unto Thee in The High and Holy Name of my Lord Jesus Christ. I not only pray these wonderful things for me, but also for all other human souls now on the face this earth. And I ask Thee, for The Lord Jesus Christ’s Precious Name’s sake, to please answer all these prayers of mine in accordance to Thy Divine Will. Thank Thee, Heavenly Father, for hearing and answering me. Amen!
