THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN
Chapter 19
Heavenly Father, in this chapter of the Gospel
of John, I will read of the Saviour of the world giving His Life for me. May
these glorious Holy Scriptures cause me to love my Lord Jesus with all my
heart.
“Then Pi’late
therefore took Je’sus, and
scourged him.” (Verse 1)
Lord Jesus Christ, I humbly worship Thee as my suffering Saviour. Thank Thee for submitting Thou self to be scourged in my place, as punishment for my sins. I deserve to have my back scourged for the times I have turned my back against Thee to haughtily go my own rebellious way against Thee, my Loving Creator God. I love Thee for this Great Love Thou didst show for me in taking this excruciatingly painful ripping apart of the flesh of Thy Back by that Roman cat-of-nine tails whip. Please save me from ever again turning my back on Thee, my Saviour and my God.
“And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his
head, and they put on him a purple robe,” (Verse 2)
Precious Lord Jesus, please reveal unto me the immense pain this
crown of thorns brought upon Thee. Teach me how that Thou didst take this painful
crown in my place. Because of the numerous ungodly and sinful, rebellious
thought that my mind has harbored against Thee, I deserve to be crowned with
that torturous crown of thorns. But in great Love and Mercy toward me, Thou
didst take it in my place. Thank Thee for that, Lord Jesus. I love Thee for
caring so much for me. I worship Thee as God’s Saviour Who suffered much for me
in order to redeem me and to save me eternally.
“And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their
hands.” (Verse 3)
Lord Jesus Christ, please save me from ever mocking Thee, as these men did. Save me from ever lifting up a hand against Thee or Thy people literally or figuratively.
“Pi’late
therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to
you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.” (Verse 4)
Lord Jesus, high and mighty Pilate again declares to all mankind
for all eternity that he found no fault in Thee. All the eternal words in God’s
Holy Bible declare Thee to be totally without fault. Thus, no human soul has
any grounds whatsoever for finding any fault whatsoever with Thee. I confess
before Almighty God and all Thy creation that I find absolutely no fault in my
Lord Jesus Christ Who is my all. My Precious Lord Jesus, I earnestly desire to
bring Thee forth to all human souls who are presently living on this earth and
to boldly, proudly, and joyfully proclaim unto them that I find no fault in
Thee! Please enable me to do just that!
“Then came Je’sus
forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pi’late saith unto them, Behold the
man!” (Verse 5)
Almighty Lord Jehovah God in Heaven, I now cry out unto Thee in
intercessory prayer for all human souls now living on this earth. I pray that
all souls on earth will behold the suffering Saviour Who lovingly took the
punishment of their sins to provide a way of escape for them from God’s Wrath
upon their sins. I pray that all souls now on earth would keenly behold this
Saviour, repent of their sins, and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
“When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they
cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pi’late saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find
no fault in him.” (Verse 6)
Lord Jesus, I stand on Thy Side. I stand opposed to all human souls presently on this earth who want to rid Thee from the face of this earth. I desire Thee to rule and reign in each and every human heart now on this earth. I pray for such absolute rule by Thee to come about now. Thy Eternal Scriptures bear record that Pilate repeatedly proclaimed that he found no fault in Jesus Christ. At this point, I too again proclaim that I find no fault in Jesus.
“The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought
to do die, because he made himself the Son of God.” (Verse 7)
Heavenly Father, I declare before Thee and before all Thy creation that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God. I proclaim that He is God the Son. I proclaim that Jesus was never an imposter. Lord Jesus, I stand on Thy Side against all people who desire to kill Thee.
“When Pi’late
therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;” (Verse 8)
Heavenly Father, I pray for all humans on this earth who are in
positions of authority over other human souls. I pray for all human rulers to
fear God instead of fearing man. I pray for them to rule in accordance to
Almighty God’s justness and righteousness.
“And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Je’sus, Whence art thou? But Je’sus gave him no answer.” (Verse 9)
Heavenly Father, help me to fully yield myself to Thy Holy Spirit for the purpose of Thy Spirit always controlling me completely. Please always tell me when to speak to men and when to be silent before men.
“Then saith Pi’late
unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to
crucify thee, and have power to release thee?” (Verse 10)
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou doest know all things. I confess that all power that all mankind has is given unto man by Almighty God in Heaven. I pray that all people would always use their powers in accordance to Thy Divine Will.
“Je’sus
answered, Thou couldest have no power at all
against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered
me unto thee hath the greater sin.” (Verse
11)
Lord God on High, I confess that all power available to men on
earth comes down from Almighty God on His Throne in Heaven. Please show mercy
unto me by preventing me from abusing the powers that Thou hast entrusted to me
while I am on this earth. Cause me to always use any power in accordance to Thy
Will and for Thy Great Glory.
“And from thenceforth Pi’late sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If
thou let this man go, thou art not Cae’sar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against
Cae’sar.” (Verse 12)
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou didst not set Thyself against Caesar and his earthly authority whilst Thou wast on this earth. Lord Jesus, I confess that Thou art a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother. I confess that Thou art the Best Friend I have. I thank Thee that Thou wilt never leave me nor forsake me. Please enable me to always be a true friend to Thee, my Lord and Saviour. Please save me from ever forsaking Thee or denying Thee.
“When Pi’late
therefore heard that saying, he brought Je’sus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is
called the Pavement, but in the He’brew, Gab’ba-tha.”(Verse
13)
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou art Almighty God, the Judge
of all the earth. I pray for all souls presently on this earth to prepare to
meet Thee in God’s Righteous Judgment by repenting of their sins and trusting
in Thee to redeem and to save them.
“And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth
hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!” (Verse 14)
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou art my King, my Lord, my God, my All. I earnestly desire to constantly behold Thee. Please enable me to always abide in Thy Presence, beholding Thy Heavenly Beauty and Holiness.
“But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him.
Pi’late saith unto them, Shall
I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cae’sar.” (Verse 15)
Lord Jesus, I confess that I have no part with this mob. I have no part with the godless rebels presently on this earth who want to rid Thee from the face of this earth. I confess that I have no king but The Lord Jesus Christ. I worship Thee as my Lord and King. I declare that I am Thine forever.
“Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And
they took Je’sus, and
led him away.” (Verse 16)
Lord Jesus, I thank Thee for submitting Thyself to die in my place. I call upon Thee to take me into Thy Loving Care and to lead me whithersoever Thou wouldest have me to go.
“And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the
place of a skull, which is called in the He’brew Gol’go-tha:”
(Verse 17)
Lord Jesus, I thank Thee for bearing that rugged cross for me. Please guide me and teach me to take up my own cross and to follow Thee, bearing my cross.
“Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either
side one, and Je’sus in
the midst.” (Verse 18)
Lord Jesus, I humbly thank Thee for being crucified for me. Please
teach me how to daily be crucified with Thee. Teach me the crucified life of
the Christian believer and by Thy Unlimited Power, bring me into that glorious
life.
“And Pi’late
wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JE’SUS OF NAZ’A-RETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
(Verse 19)
Heavenly Father, I confess that Jesus of Nazareth is the King of
the Jews. I pray for all Jews to repent and to receive Jesus of Nazareth as
their Christ and as their King.
“This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Je’sus was crucified was nigh to the
city: and it was written in He’brew,
and Greek, and Lat’in.”(Verse
20)
Heavenly Father, I pray
for the peace of
“Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pi’late, Write not, The King of the
Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.” (Verse 21)
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that each and every that Thou doest
speak is Almighty God’s Eternal Truth. I find no fault in all that Thou doest
say.
“Pi’late
answered, What I have written I have written.” (Verse 22)
Heavenly Father, Pilate stood firm in his proclamation. Please train me to firmly and boldly proclaim to all souls just who Jesus of Nazareth is.
“Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Je’sus, took his garments, and made
four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was
without seam, woven from the top throughout.” (Verse 23)
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou doest clothe each Christian
believer in a coat of God’s Righteousness that shall never be taken apart. I
desire to forever be clothed with Thy Righteousness.
“They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but
cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled,
which saith, THEY PARTED MY RAIMENT AMONG THEM, AND FOR MY VESTURE THEY DID
CAST LOTS. These things therefore the soldiers did.” (Verse 24)
Almighty Jehovah God, I confess that all Bible prophecy is God’s
Eternal Truth. I confess that Thou wilt perfectly fulfill each Bible prophecy
at the exact time Thou hast ordained for it to be fulfilled.
“Now there stood by the cross of Je’sus his mother, and his mother’s
sister, Ma’ry the
wife of Cle’o-phas,
and Ma’ry
Mag-da-le’ne.
(Verse 25)
Lord Jesus, please cause me to always proudly stand with Thee in life and in death. Save me from ever being ashamed of Thee. Save me from being afraid to stand on Thy Side.
“When Je’sus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom
he loved, he saith unto his mother, “Woman,
behold thy son!” (Verse 26)
Lord Jesus, I desire to be Thy disciple, Thy beloved disciple.
“Then saith he to the disciple, Behold
thy mother! And from that hour that disciple
took her unto his own home.” (Verse 27)
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou doest make all Christian
believers into sons of God. I confess that all Christian believers are God’s
family. Please help me to love my brothers and sisters in Christ, as I should.
“After this, Je’sus
knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be
fulfilled, saith, I thirst.” (Verse 28)
Lord Jesus Christ, during the time Thou wast on earth, Thou didst
accomplish all that Thou camest to do. I confess that wondrous truth. I believe
that Thou now doest thirst for the salvation of the lost souls on earth. Please
use me to quench that thirst by winning many lost souls to Thee.
“Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a
spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.” (Verse
29)
Lord Jesus, please enable me to always give unto Thee that which is most pleasant to Thy Taste.
“When Je’sus
therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is
finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up
the ghost.” (Verse 30)
Lord Jesus, I confess that Thou didst finish God’s Work of
redemption for me by shedding Thy Blood and giving Thy life on the cross. Please
teach me that I cannot gain salvation and eternal life by my own works. Help me
to trust fully in Thy finished work on the cross. Teach me how that Thou hast
saved me unto good works. I desire to give my life entirely to working for
Thee. Please guide me to do that.
“The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the
bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath
day was an high day,) besought Pi’late that their legs might be broken, and that they might be
taken away.” (Verse 31)
Heavenly Father, send Thy Holy Spirit now to clearly teach me that
this Sabbath day that was a high day was not the 7th day of the
week. Please teach me how this “high day” was a different sabbath that the Jews
observed, and that Thou wast 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth
(Matthew 12:40) before Thou didst rise from the dead on the morning of the
first day of the week.
“Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of
the other which was crucified with him.” (Verse 32)
Heavenly Father, the thought of a painful death is a loathsome thought. If it be Thy Will, please save me from a painful death. Thy Holy Scriptures refer to death as the last enemy that shall be destroyed. (I Corinthians 15:26) Lord Jesus, in dying on the cross in my place, Thou didst destroy the enemy of death for me and gave me eternal life in Thee when I trusted in Thee. Thank Thee, Lord Jesus.
“But when they came to Je’sus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:”
(Verse 33)
Lord Jesus, Thou hast bled and died for me, just for me. Thank
Thee, my Lord. Please cause me to determine to pour out my entire life for Thy
Sake.
“But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and
forthwith came there out blood and water.” (Verse 34)
Thus was Thy last drop of Precious, Pure Blood shed for me, Lord
Jesus. This blood Thou didst shed for me was God’s Blood. (Acts 20:28) Please
impart that knowledge into me and create within me firm, unshakable faith to
always believe that.
“And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he
knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.” (Verse 35)
Heavenly Father, I believe that this record is true. I believe
that each and every word in Thy Holy Bible is True, God’s Eternal Truth. I
confess that I believe each word in Thy Holy Bible. Almighty Lord Jehovah God,
please honour and accept my faith in Thee my Creator and my faith in Thy Holy
Scriptures.
“For these things were done, that the scripture should be
fulfilled, A BONE OF HIM SHALL NOT BE BROKEN.” (Verse 36)
Heavenly Father, I confess that Thou doest fulfill all Thy Holy
Scriptures in accordance to Thy Divine Timing. Thank Thee, Almighty God, for
this clear record in the New Testament of the perfect fulfillment of Old
Testament prophecy in Psalms 34:20. I believe all the words in Thy Holy Bible,
in both the Old and the New Testaments.
“And again another scripture saith, THEY SHALL LOOK ON HIM WHOM
THEY PIERCED.” (Verse 37)
Heavenly Father, I believe the Scriptural record of the fulfillment of this Old Testament prophecy in Zechariah 12:10. I worship Thee for giving me Thy Perfect Scriptures and for giving me unshakable faith to believe all of Thy Holy Scriptures.
“And after this Jo’seph of Ar-i-ma-thae’a, being a disciple of Je’sus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pi’late that he might take away the
body of Je’sus: and
Pi’late gave him leave. He
came therefore, and took the body of Je’sus.” (Verse 38)
Lord Jesus Christ, I desire to be Thy disciple. Please cause me to take due notice of this honour and homage that Joseph bestowed upon Thee. Please clearly guide me to daily bestow due Honour and Homage unto Thee as I trod this earth.
“And there came also Nic-o-de’mus, which first came to Je’sus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an
hundred pound weight.” (Verse 39)
Lord Jesus, teach me fully of the kindness that Nicodemus bestowed
upon Thee. Please make me vigilantly aware of each and every daily opportunity
that Thou doest give me to bestow kindness in Thy Name upon the human souls
around me. Please save me from ever missing any such opportunity.
“Then took they the body of Je’sus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the
manner of the Jews is to bury.” (Verse 40)
Almighty God in Heaven, please teach me proper respect for people both living and dead.
“Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and
in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.” (Verse 41)
Lord Jesus, I praise Thy Name that Thou wast laid in a new tomb never before occupied by a dead human body. Please teach me the full implication of this.
“There laid they Je’sus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the
sepulchre was nigh at hand.” (Verse 42)
Heavenly Father, I confess that Thou doest perfectly prepare all things according to Thy Divine Will. Please perfectly set in order and perfectly prepare all things that pertain to my life on this earth and always keep me in the center of Thy Divine Will for me. I now fully submit myself unto Thee for this wonderful and most blessed purpose.
Almighty Lord God, I also pray these things for all other people
on this earth. I pray them unto God the Father in the Name of Thy Only Begotten
Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. I humbly ask Thee to hear and to answer me for the
Lord Jesus Christ’s Precious Name’s sake. Amen.
