THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN

Chapter 11

“Now a certain man was sick, named Laz’-a-rus, of Beth’-a-ny, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.” (Verse 1)

Lord Jesus, thank Thee for looking upon us in the times of our sickness and death. Thou didst create my physical body. Thus my body belongs unto Thee. I plead with Thee to show mercy and grace unto me by keeping my body healthy. Teach me fully how to do my duty toward Thee, my Creator God, regarding eating healthy and guarding my physical health.

“(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Laz’-a-rus was sick.)” (Verse 2)

Lord Jesus Christ, please teach me how to properly adore and worship Thee during my life on this earth. Please teach me everything Thou wouldest have me to learn from Mary’s wonderful example of anointing Thee with ointment, and wiping Thy Feet with her hair.

“Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.” (Verse 3)

Lord Jesus, when Mary and Martha needed help, they well knew the Spiritual importance of first and foremost seeking help from Thee because Thou art Almighty God, and our Help is truly in the Name of The Lord. So please teach and guide me to always first seek Thy Divine Help for any and all my needs before I seek help from people or from any other source. Cause me to always bear in mind that God only is All Powerful and therefore All Sufficient to help us in any and every need. Also cause me to always fear Thee, as a Jealous God Who is most displeased when we first seek unto human doctors instead unto Thee in times of our sicknesses, injuries, and various health problems.

“When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.” (Verse 4)

Lord Jesus Christ, I desire for Thee to work freely in my life in accordance to Thy Divine Will so that Thou mightest be glorified by each and every aspect of my life on this earth. Teach me the truth that one main reason for sickness and all other adversities coming our way in this life, is that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

“Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Laz’-a-rus.” (Verse 5)

Almighty Lord Jehovah God, please now send Thy Holy Spirit mightily upon me to reveal unto me the depth of Thy Great Love for me. Please show unto me the great extent to which Thou dost love me and care for my eternal well-being. Lord Jesus, I thank Thee for loving me. I worship Thee as The God of Love.

“When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.” (Verse 6)

Lord Jesus, please give me full understanding of how that Thou, at times, dost tarry and delay to help us in times of our needs. Thou dost such to teach us patience, and to cause us to continue crying unto Thee for help without ceasing, and to teach us other such valuable spiritual lessons in our spiritual walk with Thee. Help me to always acknowledge that all Thy Ways are always Perfect.

“Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Ju-dae’-a again.” (Verse 7)

“His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?” (Verse 8)

“Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.” (Verse 9)

Lord Jesus, I confess that Thou art the Light of the world. Please shine Thy True Light into my life and into my being. Daily, please lighten my path so that I walk in Thy True Light and stumble not. I earnestly desire to always behold the Light of the world.

“But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.” (Verse 10)

Lord Jesus Christ, please save me from walking in the night. Please save me from stumbling. Please save me from having no light in me. Please give unto me Almighty God’s True Light and guide me carefully to daily walk in Thy True Light.

“These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Laz’-a-rus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.” (Verse 11)

Lord Jesus Christ, please fully awaken me out of my spiritual sleep.

“Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.” (Verse 12)

“Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.” (Verse 13)

Lord Jesus, I beg Thee for perfect Spiritual discernment in order to always perfectly understand the meaning of all the words Thou doest speak unto me.

“Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Laz’-a-rus is dead.” (Verse 14)

“And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.” (Verse 15)

Lord Jesus Christ, please work Thy Perfect Will in my life and in my being to the intent that I might always fully believe Thee.

“Then said Thomas, which is called Did’-y-mus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.” (Verse 16)

Almighty Lord Jehovah God in Heaven, I cry unto Thee to please have great mercy upon me to save me from a negative, defeated attitude that causes me to regard everything as hopeless and that my death is the only thing in my future. Please remove such a hopeless, negative attitude far from me. Save me from conveying such defeatism to fellow believers and to the lost souls of the world. May my entire life proclaim victory in Jesus to everyone.

“Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.” (Verse 17)

Now Beth’-a-ny was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:” (Verse 18)

“And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.” (Verse 19)

Heavenly Father, please fill me with Thy Divine Compassion and enable me to truly comfort souls around me who are sorrowing.

“Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.” (Verse 20)

“Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.” (Verse 21)

Lord Jesus, please fully convince me that Thou art an Ever Present Help and Comfort to me, even tho I do not see Thy Physical Presence with me. Cause me to always readily call upon Thee in time of need.

“But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.” (Verse 22)

Lord Jesus Christ, please convince me without any doubt, that God the Father wilt, of a certainty, give unto Thee whatsoever Thou wilt ask of God the Father. Please perfect my praying to the end that I always pray in accordance to Almighty God’s Divine Will. Then please perfect my faith to fully believe that Almighty God in Heaven wilt give unto me whatsoever I ask of God, all for God’s Great Glory.

“Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.” (Verse 23)

Lord Jesus Christ, reveal unto me how that this promise of Thine is to all souls who trust in Thee. Thank Thee for promising us Christian believers; that after we die a physical death, we shall rise again. Lord Jesus, I trust in Thee as my Resurrection and Eternal Life.

“Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” (Verse 24)

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:” (Verse 25)

Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I confess that Thou art The Resurrection. I believe in Thee as The Resurrection. I worship Thee as The Resurrection. Lord Jesus, I confess that Thou art The Life. I believe in Thee as my Eternal Life. I worship Thee as Life. Lord Jesus, my heart overflows with joy unspeakable and full of glory because Thou art my Resurrection and my Life. That Wonderful Truth has God’s Power to remove all fear of death from me. So I ask Thee to remove all fear of death from me. I love Thee with all my heart for being my Resurrection and Life. I confess that the person who believes in The Lord Jesus Christ, though he were dead, yet shall he live. What a glorious Hope that is. Convince me and all souls, Lord Jesus, that only Thou art the One True Hope of Life for all mankind.

“And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” (Verse 26)

My Lord and My God, Lord Jesus Christ, I boldly and most joyfully confess that I fully believe all Thy Words because all Thy Words are Almighty God’s Everlasting Truth. I confess that I believe that whosoever liveth and believeth in Thee shall never die. I confess that I fully believe in Thee, Lord Jesus. I thank Thee, that because that Thou didst die for me on the cross, that I will never die. I pray for all souls to believe this Truth and to receive Thee as their Saviour.

“She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.” (Verse 27)

Lord Jesus Christ, please empower me to believe with all my heart that Thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. Please empower and enable me to fully and completely trust and believe in Thee with all my heart, and never, ever waver in my faith in Thee as my Saviour, Lord, and God.

“And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.” (Verse 28)

Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou art Master of all human souls and of all things. I desire to most willingly make Thee my Master and to fully obey Thee in all things. Please enable me to do such. I humbly worship Thee as Master. Please call for me and enable me to ever answer Thy Precious Call. Lord Jesus, please cause me to proclaim to everyone I possibly can, that The Master is come, and calleth for them.

“As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.” (Verse 29)

Lord Jesus, each time that Thou dost call me, please cause me to quickly arise and to come unto Thee.

“Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.” (Verse 30)

“The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.” (Verse 31)

Lord Jesus, I praise Thy High and Holy Name that we do not have to go to the grave to weep in our sorrow over the death of loved ones. Rather we can come unto Thee to be comforted in our grief. Please help us to always come unto Thee, The God of All Comfort, in all times of sorrow and trouble.

“Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.” (Verse 32)

Lord Jesus Christ, by Thy Unlimited Power please draw me unto Thee. I desire to see Thee. Please reveal Thyself unto me. Cause me to fall down at Thy Feet and to worship Thee. Cause me to always bring my every sorrow and grief to Thee to be wholly comforted by Thee.

“When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,” (Verse 33)

Lord Jesus, I thank Thee for having such great compassion on us in our sorrow. I fervently worship Thee as The Loving God Who truly is deeply touched by our infirmities and Who is All Powerful to fully comfort us and sustain us, no matter how deep our grief may be.

“And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.” (Verse 34)

Almighty Lord God in Heaven, I praise Thy High and Holy Name that Thou dost always know where I am and are always looking upon me in Thy Loving, Tender Care.

“Jesus wept.” (Verse 35)

My Most Precious Lord Jesus Christ, I fervently worship Thee for Thy Great Compassion Thou hast for all us human souls whom Thou hast created. I heartily thank Thee that Thou desirest that no human soul die forever, but doest desire that each of us live forever in Heaven after this life on earth. How wonderful, glorious, and meaningful is this shortest verse in God’s Holy Bible.

“Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!”(Verse 36)

Lord Jesus, please grant unto me full comprehension of Thy Great Love for me. Please enable me to love Thee with all my heart.

“And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?” (Verse 37)

Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that Thou canst open the eyes of the blind. I confess that Thou canst raise any dead person to life again. I worship Thee as Almighty God Who can do anything. Save me from ever doubting Thy Unlimited Power.

“Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.” (Verse 38)

Lord Jesus, I worship Thee for being so compassionate to be so touched by our sorrows, infirmities, and our death.

“Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.” (Verse 39)

Lord Jesus Christ, I worship Thee as Almighty God Who takest away all the strongholds and bonds of death for each human soul who puts their trust in Thee. Lord Jesus, I trust in Thee fully. I pray that all other souls on earth would trust in Thee. I worship Thee as Almighty God for Whom the stench of a rotting human carcass imposes no limits to Thee bringing that human soul back to life again. Lord Jesus, I worship Thee as Life. I thank Thee for being my Eternal Life.

“Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?” (Verse 40)

Lord Jesus, please create within me a deep craving to fully believe all of Almighty Jehovah God’s Words in The Holy Bible. Please grant unto me perfect Spiritual discernment to clearly discern everything God the Holy Spirit teaches me by putting words and thoughts into my mind. Please cause me to fully believe everything God the Holy Spirit speaks unto me during my life on earth. Almighty Lord God, I hunger and thirst to see Thy Great Glory. Please show Thy Glory unto me.

“Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.” (Verse 41)

Our Father which art in Heaven, I too thank Thee for hearing me when I pray unto Thee. Please enable me to fully yield myself to Thee for the purpose of Thy Holy Spirit always controlling me and thus causing me to always pray in accordance to Thy Divine Will.

“And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.” (Verse 42)

Heavenly Father, I confess that Thou doest always hear The Lord Jesus Christ when He prays unto Thee. Please always hear me when I pray unto Thee, in Jesus’ Name. Heavenly Father, I confess that I believe that Thou didst send The Lord Jesus Christ into this world.

“And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Laz’-a-rus, come forth.” (Verse 43)

Lord Jesus Christ, I worship Thee as Almighty God of the living Who doth call for the dead to come forth alive from the grave.

“And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.” (Verse 44)

Lord Jesus, I confess that when Thou doest call forth the dead from the grave, the dead come forth alive. I praise Thy Name for loosening Christian believers from the bonds of death and for giving us eternal life in Thee.

“Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.” (Verse 45)

Lord Jesus Christ, I fully believe all things the Bible teaches us that Thou didst while on earth. I too believe on Thee with all my heart as my Saviour. I pray that all souls now on earth would believe on Thee.

“But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.” (Verse 46)

Lord Jesus, I perceive that these did not tell of Thy Doings out of love for Thee. Please help me to tell every one of all Thy Wondrous Works out of a heart of fervent love for Thee.

“Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.” (Verse 47)

Lord Jesus, I too confess that Thou doest many miracles. I confess that Truth is a great joy to me and that I do not oppose Thee or any of Thy wonderful acts. People ponder what to do to Thee or about Thee. I know that all souls should repent unto Thee and believe on Thee.

“If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.” (Verse 48)

Abba Father in Heaven, I cry unto Thee, praying that each and every human soul now living on this earth would believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. I intercede in prayer to Almighty God The Father for the salvation of every lost soul on earth.

“And one of them, named Ca’-ia-phas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,” (Verse 49)

Our Father Who art in Heaven, please send Thy Holy Spirit upon me to teach me all things Thou wouldest have me to know. Save me from spiritual ignorance.

“Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.” (Verse 50)

Heavenly Father, I praise Thy Great Name that Thou didst deem it expedient for us, that one man, The Lord Jesus Christ, should die for the people, so that all who believe on the Lord Jesus should not perish.

“And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;” (Verse 51)

Lord Jesus Christ, I praise Thy Name for dying for the nation Israel. I pray that all people of the nation Israel would now trust in Thee as their Saviour.

“And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.” (Verse 52)

Heavenly Father, I confess that all souls scattered abroad thru out this earth who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ thus become the children of God. I praise Thy Great Name that Thou doest gather us together in one. I confess that I belong to the Lord Jesus.

“Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.” (Verse 53)

Lord Jesus Christ, please firmly ground me in my faith in Thee, my God and Saviour. Please save me from ever opposing Thee in any way. I stand for Thee and I stand with Thee, Lord Jesus. I am on the Lord’s side.

“Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called E’-phra-im, and there continued with his disciples.” (Verse 54)

Lord Jesus, I desire to be Thy disciple and to continue with Thee forever. Please train me to forever walk ever so close to Thee.

“And the Jews’ passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.” (Verse 55)

Lord Jesus, by God’s Almighty Power please wholly purify me.

“Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?” (Verse 56)
